As a child and even now I enjoy hearing the toot from a conch shell. Most recent I had a group of children and adults give a go at the conch shell blow. It was no surprise when only one or two of them successfully found the sweet spot and filled the air with a resounding TOOT.
I remember how determined I was to blow the conch and how many tries it took to figure out exactly where to place my lips and how to pitch the air into the shell to make the toot.
Years ago when a fishermen came ashore with their catch they blew the conch shell to alert everyone in the neighborhood they had fish. Members in the community would race to the beach with a bag or bucket and purchase fresh fish for their family.
